Week 5: Business Models

After a two week break, we are back to university. This week we are learning about business models.

There was a lot to take in this week, it was a bit full on with the detail of the information that was featured in our presentation during class.

A site that I regularly use is ticketek, i use this website to mainly purchase tickets for AFL matches and concert tickets sometimes. What is interesting with this website is that before the AFL season started they had their pre-sale for the first 6 rounds. A massive problem there was an overload of people using the website as well as people trying to purchase tickets to a concert too. This caused a lot of problems due to a connection loss, because of an overload of people, this ended up causing people to loose tickets they have chosen and a lot of people had to go back to the start and go through the process again.

There are some advantages and disadvantages of this website:

Advantages:

  • The homepage has clear information about what ticket categories there are available
  • At the bottom of the page they have a pop-up for exclusive offers for Visa-Card Holders
  • It can show you events that will be coming up in your State
  • Search bar is very clear at the main bar tab of the page which is very easy for people to access.

Disadvantages:

  • It is prone to crashing a lot especially during busy periods
  • Too many advertisements set out across the page, especially when it is advertisements for sites you have visited before and my be intrusive for some customers.

Depending on what type of person you are ticketek can keep your card details so you don’t have to keep typing it in every time you make a purchase. I think it can be easy sometimes if you don’t want to keep entering it each time you make a purchase. Others may think that this can cross a line, there is an option to not have them saved but some people can accidentally accept this.
